The judicial procedure is carried out in the case of descendants of a female ancestor born earlier on the 1st of January 1948.

Also in this case, it is not necessary that the applicant has to go personally to Italy, with considerable savings in travel and residence costs in Italy. Still, it is enough to sign one notarial power of attorney which gives the Italian lawyer the power to act in Italy for the applicant. 

Given that the Consulate applies the old law and does not recognize transmission through the female line before 1948, an application is required to the Italian judge, who, replacing the administration, will be able to recognize the right to citizenship in a short Italian time (about 1 year and a half).
